Mayfair Nannies is delighted to be assisting a private family in Belgravia with the recruitment of an experienced and academically accomplished Governess / After-School Tutor for their three boys, aged 8, 10 and 10. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic educator who enjoys working with school-aged children and can bring both structure and creativity to their learning. The family is seeking someone who will take genuine responsibility for the boys' academic progress, helping them develop confidence, independence and a lasting enthusiasm for learning. The household is fully supported, with separate staff responsible for general childcare, cooking and household duties. This position is focused entirely on education, organisation and the children's after-school routines.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Overseeing homework and ensuring assignments are completed to a high standard.
- Providing academic support across the British curriculum, particularly English and mathematics.
- Supporting Key Stage 2 learning, Year 6 preparation and the transition into Key Stage 3.
- Helping the boys prepare for assessments, revision and school projects.
- Encouraging independent study, critical thinking and effective learning habits.
- Reading with the children and introducing engaging books, subjects and ideas.
- Monitoring school communications, academic deadlines and upcoming commitments.
- Organising and coordinating extracurricular activities and additional tutoring.
- Occasionally collecting a child from school on foot and accompanying the children to activities.
- Establishing a structured, enjoyable and productive after-school routine.
- Maintaining regular communication with the parents regarding academic progress and development.
The Ideal Candidate
The family would love to find a warm, engaging and intellectually curious individual who genuinely enjoys inspiring children.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A degree or equivalent academic qualification.
- Previous experience as a Governess, Teacher, Private Tutor or in a comparable educational role.
- An excellent understanding of the British curriculum, particularly Key Stages 2 and 3.
- Strong English and mathematics skills.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- The confidence to support three children with differing academic needs.
- Outstanding organisational and communication skills.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to manage the children's educational schedules independently.
- A genuine enthusiasm for literature, education and intellectual development.
- Excellent professional references.
- A non-smoking background and willingness to undergo appropriate safeguarding and background checks.
Additional Information
This is a part-time position, with the potential for the responsibilities and working hours to develop over time.
The family is offering a competitive hourly rate and is happy to consider candidates with particularly strong educational backgrounds whose experience may warrant a higher salary.
There are no housekeeping, cleaning, laundry or cooking responsibilities.
