Live-in Nanny/Governess

Job description

A private family based in Istanbul, Turkey are seeking an experienced, warm and highly professional Live-in Educational Nanny / Nanny-Governess to care for their two children, a boy aged 6 and a girl aged 4.

This is a long-term opportunity for an experienced childcare professional who can combine excellent day-to-day care with a strong educational and developmental approach.

The family are looking for someone affectionate, playful and energetic, while also confident establishing healthy boundaries and routines in a calm, respectful and consistent way. Emotional and social development is particularly important to the family, including encouraging good manners, independence, respectful communication, emotional regulation and an understanding of personal boundaries.

The successful candidate should genuinely enjoy encouraging curiosity and learning through reading, mathematics, science, creativity and age-appropriate activities. The children’s English should be developed naturally through conversation, reading, games and everyday life.

The family’s 6-year-old son is particularly curious and enjoys mathematics, science and learning through play, so someone who genuinely enjoys nurturing a child’s intellectual curiosity would be particularly well suited.

The family travel internationally and are looking for a candidate who is happy to accompany them.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing attentive and engaging day-to-day care for both children
• Supporting their emotional, social and educational development
• Establishing and maintaining appropriate routines and boundaries
• Encouraging good manners, independence and respectful communication
• Supporting emotional regulation and helping the children manage frustration and big emotions
• Encouraging an understanding of personal space and body boundaries in an age-appropriate way
• Planning stimulating activities and experiences without relying on screens
• Encouraging reading, mathematics, science, creativity and learning through play
• Supporting homework and school routines where appropriate
• Encouraging English naturally through conversation, books and games
• Travelling internationally with the family when required

Essential Requirements

• Native English speaker or exceptional/native-level English
• Professional background in childcare, early years, teaching, child development or a related field
• Substantial private household experience with children of similar ages
• Warm, affectionate, playful and energetic approach
• Calm and consistent approach to behaviour and boundaries
• Genuine interest in education and child development
• Confident supporting children’s emotional and social development
• Discreet, trustworthy and emotionally mature
• Accustomed to working within a private family environment
• Happy to travel internationally
• Seeking a long-term position

Candidates with a background as a qualified teacher, early-years educator, Norland-trained nanny, Montessori-trained educator, educational nanny or governess would be particularly welcomed.

Accommodation: Private accommodation provided within the family home
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
